Fitness is not limited by age. Staying physically active becomes especially important as we grow older, helping support strength, mobility, balance, confidence, and overall well-being.

Taking this message forward, Soumen’s Workout is bringing the Jago India Jago Fitness Campaign to Bangalore as its 30th city from 18th to 21st September.

The Bangalore chapter will have a special focus on senior citizens, with fitness activities covering body toning, strength training, balance training, and facial toning workouts. The campaign will take place at two popular public spaces—Lalbagh Botanical Garden and Cubbon Park.

Senior Fitness Takes Centre Stage

As people enter their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond, maintaining regular physical activity can become increasingly important.

Ageing can naturally affect muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and mobility. Regular and suitable exercise can help seniors remain active and confident while supporting everyday movement.

The Jago India Jago Fitness Campaign aims to encourage seniors to make fitness a regular part of their lifestyle rather than something they should start only when health concerns arise.

The Bangalore campaign will focus on four key areas:

Toning • Strength Training • Balance Training • Facial Toning

Toning and Strength Training for Seniors

Senior-friendly toning workouts can involve controlled movements that engage the arms, legs, core, hips, shoulders, and back.

The goal is not intense training. It is to keep the body active and support functional movement through consistent exercise.

Strength training is equally important for seniors. Maintaining strength can support everyday activities such as walking, getting up from a chair, using stairs, and carrying light objects.

Depending on individual ability, exercises can include:

  • Bodyweight movements
  • Light resistance exercises
  • Chair-supported workouts
  • Functional movements
  • Controlled strengthening exercises

The intensity should always be appropriate for the individual’s fitness level and physical condition.

Balance Training for Better Stability

Balance is an important part of senior fitness.

Suitable balance exercises can focus on stability, coordination, posture, body control, and confidence while moving.

Beginners can start with simple and supported movements and gradually progress according to their ability.

The objective is not to perform difficult balancing exercises. It is to help seniors become more comfortable and confident with controlled movement.

Facial Toning Workout

The campaign will also highlight facial toning workouts, adding an interesting element to the overall fitness routine.

Facial exercises involve controlled movements of different facial muscles and may focus on areas such as the cheeks, cheekbones, jawline, under-eye area, forehead and neck.

For seniors, facial toning can become a simple and engaging addition to their regular exercise routine.

This approach encourages participants to think about fitness beyond traditional body workouts.

The No Machine Zone Approach

One of the distinctive philosophies of Soumen’s Workout is the No Machine Zone approach.

The idea is to show that people do not always need expensive gym memberships or complicated exercise machines to become more active.

Simple bodyweight exercises, stretching, mobility movements, functional training, and balance exercises can provide an accessible starting point.

This is particularly useful for seniors who may prefer simple, practical, and easy-to-understand forms of exercise.

You can start moving without expensive equipment.

Fitness for Healthy Ageing

For senior citizens, fitness is about much more than appearance or weight loss.

It can be about maintaining:

  • Strength
  • Mobility
  • Balance
  • Flexibility
  • Stamina
  • Posture
  • Energy
  • Everyday confidence

The goal is to encourage seniors to stay active according to their own abilities and make movement a consistent part of their lifestyle.

Every individual is different, so exercises should be adapted according to age, fitness level, lifestyle, and existing health considerations.

Bangalore Becomes the 30th City

The Bangalore chapter is another major milestone in the nationwide journey of the Jago India Jago Fitness Campaign.

The campaign has already reached cities including Kolkata, Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Jamshedpur, Guwahati, Goa, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Agartala, Pune, Patna, Nagpur, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Surat, Vadodara, Thiruvananthapuram, Visakhapatnam, Kanpur, Ranchi, Indore and Bhopal, along with previous campaign activity in Delhi.

Now, Bangalore becomes the 30th city in this growing fitness movement.

The campaign’s earlier Delhi chapter brought fitness activities to Central Park and Talkatora Park, continuing its focus on making fitness accessible through public spaces.

Fitness at Lalbagh Botanical Garden and Cubbon Park

From 18th to 21st September, Bangalore residents will have the opportunity to participate in the campaign at:

Lalbagh Botanical Garden
Cubbon Park

These open public spaces provide an ideal environment for community-based fitness activities.

For senior citizens, participating in group workouts can also provide motivation and encourage them to remain consistent with physical activity.

The campaign aims to create an environment where seniors can exercise, learn, interact, and stay motivated together.
