A series of lung conditions known collectively as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) restrict airflow and make breathing difficult. Breathlessness, frequent coughing, and pressure in the chest are all signs of COPD.
People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may believe they cannot exercise due to breathing issues. However, your doctor might advise you to get moving since it might help with other COPD symptoms including shortness of breath. On the other side, inactivity can result in a loss of muscle mass and cardiovascular health. Every time you exert yourself, you might start to feel more and more out of breath.
Workout for COPD:
Every workout should start with a warm-up, go through a conditioning phase, and end with a cool-down. Your body can gradually transition from rest to movement thanks to the warm-up. A warm-up eases the strain on your heart and muscles while gradually raising your body temperature, respiration, and heart rate. Additionally, it lessens tightness in the muscles and increases flexibility.
1) Walking: Almost everyone with COPD is able to exercise. The best option is to walk, especially if you’re just starting out. Go outside, inside a mall, or on a treadmill to do it. If it seems difficult, increase by 10 yards or 30 seconds each day. Even moving slowly will be beneficial. Before beginning an exercise regimen, speak with your doctor if you haven’t been active recently.
2) Calf Raises: You may walk farther and with less effort if you include leg exercises in your programme. To perform the calf raise, place your feet hip-width apart while standing behind a stable chair. Hold on for stability. Now stand tall on your toes while slowly breathing. Hold your arms elevated for a little while. As you take a deep breath, bring your heels back to the ground.
3) Jumping rope: Along with strengthening your muscles and enhancing your cardiovascular system, it will also boost weight loss by burning calories. Many people are substituting this entertaining exercise for their regular cardio exercises because all you need is a jump rope and a pair of running shoes.
4) Resistance training: Muscles, especially those that support respiration, become stronger with resistance training. Resistance bands can be useful, but bodyweight exercises can make the body even stronger.
